Watch TV: Have your parents ever complained that you watch too much TV? They are not entirely wrong. TV is OK if watched moderately. You don't want to waste your life by becoming a couch potato. TV is great if you can learn from what you're watching. I'm not saying you should not watch the no-nonsense sitcoms. Hey, I love Seinfeld. Kramer's the man! Each week you can find me in front of the tube watching Friends.
What I'm simply trying to get across to you is that there are certain times when you have to "watch-to-learn." Just as you read the newspaper to keep up to speed on current events, you should also watch the local or world news. It only takes thirty minutes a day to get updated on the most notable stories.
In addition to the news, there are other quality programs that can serve as informative and educational outlets such as PBS and The Discovery Channel. I'm not telling you shouldn't watch movies either. I'm one of the biggest movie buffs you'll ever meet. If I'm not going out to catch the latest flick, you could always find me at home with a video rental. There are particular movies from which everyone can learn. Here are a few that could teach you some valuable success principles:
Rocky I & II: Sylvester Stallone plays boxer Rocky Balboa who gets a chance to fight Apollo Creed for the World Heavyweight Boxing Title. No one gave him a chance. No matter how bad Rocky was beaten up or how many times he was knocked down in the fight, he kept getting up. In Rocky II, he became the Heavyweight Champion and proved that you can accomplish your dreams if you simply "go for it" and keep getting up when you are knocked down.
Rudy: This is a movie about a student who enrolled at the University of Notre Dame and tried out for the football team. His dream was to play one play in a real game, but he was much smaller than the other players and not as athletic. He never lost focus of his dream. Finally, he got the chance to play, sacked the quarterback, and at the end of the game, he was carried off the field on the shoulders of his teammates. No other player since "Rudy" has ever been carried off the field at the University of Notre Dame. It is an enjoyable movie about pursuing your goals and not quitting.
