Make A World Of Difference: Rotary International

Aimed at connecting business and professional leaders, Rotary International is a membership organization that is committed to service, the development of better relationships and the advancement of the community. People who become members are expected to adhere to a strict standard of personal and professional ethics, as the duty of service is perceived as taking precedence over self. Because this organization is a secular one, it does not discriminate based upon age, religion, gender or race.

Although membership is, ultimately, by invitation all interested individuals who have something worthy to contribute can apply. Rotary clubs are open to people of all cultures and ethnicities and are not affiliated with any political or religious organizations.

Rotary clubs have in excess of 1.2 million worldwide members. Those who are members will usually host weekly social gatherings for their clubs. These are simple gatherings such as breakfast meetings or dinner and lunch meetings where club activities and future goals are discussed. Club members can meet in public arenas, however, these events can also be hosted at club lodges. Rotarian's offer scholarships as well as exchanges, programs for promoting increased literacy and various other activities and useful resources for enriching the community.

Members value and promote high ethical standards and these are promoted in all personal and professional endeavors. This is the way in which group participants promote peace and the well-being of the community. They additionally value jobs or professionals that are useful to others.

The promotion of increased international understanding is another way in which Rotarian's remain service driven. They do this by encouraging professional throughout their world chapters to network with one another. These individuals are united by the same ideal service.

Evanston, Illinois is home to the Rotary International headquarters. This group was found in 1905 and presently has numerous branches in various countries across the globe and many official languages. The club founder was Paul P. Harris.
