Always Keep In Touch With Your Contacts. You Just Never Know Where It Might Lead! By James Malinchak

Why is it vital that you stay in contact with people? The answer is simple. You just don't know where it might lead. I had a childhood friend who I played sports with named Michael. After high school graduation our goals led us in separate directions. My ambitions led me to play college basketball in Ohio and Hawaii. Michael's goals brought him to Detroit, MI where he began to train for a career as a professional boxer. We had not seen each for several years, but I stayed in touch with him.

After graduating from college, I began my career as a stockbroker in Los Angeles. One day I picked up a local newspaper and I read the following headline:

"Evander Holyfield to Defend the World Heavyweight Boxing Title Against Michael Moorer."

I could not believe it! This was my childhood friend. Right away, I called a mutual friend of ours back in our small hometown of Monessen, PA to ask if he knew how to get in contact with Michael since the fight was happening the following week in Las Vegas. He did and provided me with the telephone number to the room of one of Michael's bodyguards. I left a message and asked if he'd have Michael return my call. Honestly, I did not think he'd return my call because we had not seen one another for many years.

Soon thereafter, my phone rang and it was Michael. He said that he didn't know that I was residing in Los Angeles. Most importantly, he said that it was nice to hear from an old friend who stayed in contact all these years. He asked if I was thinking about attending the fight. When I told him that I'd be there he said to call him when I arrived so that we can see one another.

To make a long story short, the night before the heavyweight title fight that was going to be broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide, I was visiting with Michael in his hotel room for a few hours. Since attending that first fight, I attended most of Michael's fights and visited with him while he was at the various training camps before each fight. The fight was awesome, Moorer took a heavy punch during round 2, but he came back winning the title over Holyfield! My friend Michael went on to have an awesome career in boxing!

Why did all of this opportunity happen? Simply because I took the initiative to stay in touch with somebody that I met in junior high school. Anyone can stay in contact with a periodic phone call or a periodic holiday card or even social media. If you are not making an effort to stay in touch with your contacts, then you could be missing some wonderful life experiences, and you are losing relationships with certain individuals who could possibly help you acquire what you desire.
