Starting Your Career As An Event Planner

By Jason Larrsohn

When you find yourself applying for jobs after getting a business education, you may find that there are manager's positions that you may want to apply for. Getting a position in management means you will want to figure out how to be an effective and quality manager.

Although you will have learned about management throughout your business education, you should be prepared to do some more research. Doing your research ahead of time and getting to know your position well can help you succeed from the first day of work.

You should be sure that you have a running check list and calendar throughout the time that you are planning. Remembering all of the details involved with planning can be near impossible if you are not writing down what you need to remember and what you need to accomplish.

You may feel like there is a lot of responsibility as the property owner requires you to fix some of these problems but if you have the know-how it will be fine. The third quality is resourcefulness.

For example, if you are willing to tell your team how important it is for them to be on time every day to work, you will need to make sure that you are on time to work every day. Being a hypocrite is a great way to get your team to not like you and not want to follow you.

Keeping lines of communication open throughout the time that you are planning this event will also be important. You want to be able to contact those that are involved and you should make yourself available for being contacted by those that need you.

When you are faced with problems between employees, it is important that you deal with the problems in a legal manner. Do not get overly involved, but be sure to work closely with your manager or the owner of your company to choose which course of action will work well.

Third, as your employees' boss you have to make sure that you are prepared to fight for them. You want to make sure that you are doing all that you can to ensure they like their job, they are making enough money and they are happy.

Attending an event planning program can help you learn new skills and incorporate some proven techniques into your planning method. As you learn new event planning skills and eventually graduate your program, you may find that there are even more employment opportunities.

When a property manager takes on things as if they were his/her own there is a new dynamic to the business. Progression and efficiency immediately follow individuals who consider themselves stewards. The tenth quality is networking. Just as it was important to know people in college, it is important to know people while you work.

Take time to develop your managerial skills and do not be afraid to take criticism from your superiors and use it to make improvements in your managing style. This way, you can be continually improving your managerial skills and hopefully improving the functionality of your team.
