A Guide To Convert To Judaism Way Of Life

If you wish to convert to Judaism, you will be required to follow certain steps. It is not an instant process but a lengthy one, intended at self awareness. Conversion affects your entire life. It is for this reason that you will be required to study Jewish beliefs, traditions and culture. The process is completed under the guidance of a rabbi.

You are required to research on the history, customs and laws that guide the Jewish way of life. This serves as an introduction into the life you wish to be enlisted. It is a process that makes it clear why you are converting. The decision is bound to affect your entire life. Your children will learn from you. This means that you must know.

You will be taught the thirteen pillars and 613 commandments. They are the basis of this religion. You are required to discuss your decision with family members. This is to make them understand your move, intentions and desires. It makes them comfortable with your conversion.

If the reason for conversion is marriage, you should be open to your spouse. You have a chance to discuss the denomination you are going to join. Many rabbis do not allow you to take the classes for the sake of it. He might tell you that Im a rabbi, but will not take you through classes for that simple reason.

Sincerity of heart and genuine desire are demanded from anyone who wants to convert to Judaism. It is a spiritual transformation and must not be informed by any other desire. There are different denominations like Orthodox, Reform and Conservatives which you may join. Their levels of devotion distinguish them.

You will inform a Rabbi once you have made the final decision. He will try to convince you otherwise to measure your conviction. It is expected that you will resist such a move since you are determined. This opens the door for you to complete the process of conversion. It takes time to go through these stages unlike other religions.

There are classes for faithful wishing to convert to Judaism. They last almost or over a year and can be offered during the night. The guidance of the Rabbi ensures that you follow all the requirements of Jewish laws and traditions. Learners are introduced to culture, religion, traditions and beliefs among other ideals of the Jews. Hebrew is the preferred language of delivery.

Classes end with a test where the learner sits through a court of three authorities. It is referred to as Beit Din and tests your preparedness to stick to Halacha. This procedure is mandatory. Successful candidates prepare for the full emersion ceremony. One has the entire body dipped in Mikveh. All males must be circumcised. The ritual requires a little blood to be shed.

It is not automatic for children to convert to Judaism because their parents have converted. Some orders are very strict and do not even permit children conceived before start of classes to be converted. These children are required to attend their classes at the age of thirteen. Those born later are automatically admitted.
